MINUTES


Present:  John Adams, President; Adam Williams, Vice President ; Trent Fox, Secretary; Lance Engle, Member; Jacob Case, Member; Darin Gullion, Assistant Superintendent; and Reece Mann, Superintendent



  1. CALL TO ORDER


At 6:30 p.m. Board President, John Adams, called the meeting to order.

  1. MINUTES


A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Jacob Case to accept the minutes of the business meeting and executive session held on Monday, October 21, 2019.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.



  1. FINANCE


  1. A motion was made by Adam Williams and seconded by Lance Engle to accept the list of vouchers, as presented.  The motion was approved 5-0 vote.



  1. Purchases over $7500:


A motion was made by Jacob Case and seconded by Adam Williams to approve the following (item 1):


  1. Schwer Electric Construction $9,350.00

(DHS New Business Lab)


The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Lance Engle to approve the permission to advertise additional appropriations, as presented. The motion was approved 5-0 vote. 


  1. Dr. Gullion gave a Monthly Finance Review presentation.



  1. COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE FLOOR


Scott Blakely, Eaton Elementary Principal, informed everyone they had a water main break about a week ago due to the construction going on.  He was very pleased with the way the corporation came together. He thanked Dr. Gullion and Mr. Kile for coming up with a plan. He thanked the transportation department for having buses there immediately to transport kids to the middle school.  He thanked Mr. Marshall and Ms. Campbell for helping when the students were at the middle school. He stated it’s a testament to our corporation and how we can work as a team and he’s very appreciative of that. He informed everyone Eaton Elementary has been recognized as a nominee for a Title I Distinguished School by the IDOE.  He stated there are two schools selected from the State to represent Indiana. He informed everyone they have an interview on Wednesday with the IDOE where they will talk about what they’ve done to raise scores and how they’ve had a lot of growth in the bottom 25% of students. He believes this is a testament as to why they were nominated.  He stated this is great news for our corporation, teachers, and staff. He stated teachers work hard every day, he’s pleased with what they do, and this is a good indication they are right on track and doing good things. Mr. Blakely hopes they will know if they were selected by the end of next week. He stated if they are selected, they will get extra money for Title I which will help with more programs and they will also be invited to the National Conference in Atlanta in February.

A motion was made by Adam Williams and seconded by Lance Engle to approve the following (item 1):

The motion was approved 5-0 vote.

A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Adam Williams to approve the following (item 1):


  1. Resignation of Lauren Matheny, Assistant Track Coach at Delta Middle School, effective immediately.


The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Adam Williams to approve the following (items 2-18):


  1. Recommendation to employ Conner McCabe as a Diving Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Joshua Werley as an Assistant Swim Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Sean Wolfe as a Coed Diving Coach at Delta Middle School effective for the 2019-20 school year, pending successful completion of all pre-employment testing.


  1. Recommendation to employ Brandi Starrett as a Head 7th/8th Grade Softball Coach at Delta Middle School effective for the 2019-20 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Amanda Lewis as a Coed Unified Track Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year.

  2. Recommendation to employ Mark Detweiler as a Freshman Class Sponsor at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Seth Paul as a Freshman Class Sponsor at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Britney Iliff, Christy Bilby, and Bethany Ratts as Robotics Coaches at Albany Elementary School effective for the 2019-20 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Bryan Jackson as a Robotics Coach at Eaton Elementary School effective for the 2019-20 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Curt Grams as a Robotics Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Andy Lewman as an Open Gym Supervisor at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Zach Enos as a Marching Band Director at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Adrianne Wingler as an Assistant Marching Band Director at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year.


  1. Recommendation to employ Amanda Craw, Erica Pluimer, and Audrey Young as ISTEP+10 Remediation Teachers at Delta High School effective November 5, 2019 through November 18, 2019.


  1. Recommendation to appoint Jon Bennett as a Volunteer Assistant Swim/Dive Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year, pending successful completion of all pre-employment testing.


  1. Recommendation to appoint Maurgan Hulecki as a Volunteer Assistant Swim/Dive Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year, pending successful completion of all pre-employment testing.


  1. Recommendation to appoint Brian Osner as a Volunteer Assistant Swim Coach at Delta High School effective for the 2019-20 school year, pending successful completion of all pre-employment testing.


The motion was approved 5-0 vote.


  1. Conference Requests/Field Trips


A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Jacob Case to approve the following (items 1-8):


  1. Haley Cross requests permission to attend an ECSC Meeting to be held on November 7, 2019 at the Service Center in Connersville, IN.


  1. Jessica Blakely requests permission to attend Reading Recovery Professional Development to be held on November 7, 2019 and November 26, 2019.


  1. Lindsey Thompson requests permission to attend the Indiana Canvas Users Meeting to be held on November 18, 2019 at Park Tudor in Indianapolis, IN.


  1. Reece Mann, Greg Kile, and Chris Conley request permission to attend the RECN Meeting to be held on November 20, 2019 at the University of Indianapolis in Indianapolis, IN.


  1. Angela Decker, Heather Spoljaric, Nannette Triplett, and Doug Marshall request permission to attend Empowering Students to Own Their Learning to be held on November 21, 2019 at CIESC in Indianapolis, IN.


  1. Janelle Davis requests permission to attend the IASBO Human Resources Seminar to be held on November 21, 2019 at the Primo Banquet Center in Indianapolis, IN.


  1. Reece Mann requests permission to attend the 2019 IAPSS Annual Meeting to be held from December 4, 2019 through December 6, 2019 at the Westin in Indianapolis, IN.


  1. Jeri Harman and Laurie Neal request permission to attend the    Indiana Association for Gifted Annual Conference to be held from December 9, 2019 through December 10, 2019 at the J.W. Marriott in Indianapolis, IN.

  1. Mr. Mann informed the Board about the following fundraisers:


  1. Todd Trehearne, Riley Dance Marathon, requests to hold a dance on April 4, 2020 and hold fundraisers from November 2019 through May 2020, as presented.  Proceeds go towards Riley Foundation-For the Kids.


    1. Angie Bragg, DHS Boys’ Basketball Boosters, requests permission to hold miscellaneous games during varsity home games from November 16, 2019 through February 28, 2020, as presented.  Proceeds go towards the Boosters fund.


    1. Chase Criswell, DMS Athletics, requests permission to sell old jerseys and uniforms from November 25, 2019 through December 6, 2019, as presented.  Proceeds go towards uniforms and equipment for athletics.


  1. Assistant Superintendent


  1. Use of Facilities:


A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Jacob Case to approve the following (items 1-2):


    1. Ryan Parrott, RES Robotics, requests permission to use the Royerton Elementary gymnasium and cafeteria on November 5, 2019, November 19, 2019, and December 7, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to hold Robotics League, as presented.


      1. Debbie Hall requests permission to use the Albany Elementary School gymnasium on November 23, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to hold a family reunion, as presented.


The motion was approved 5-0 vote



A motion was made by Lance Engle and seconded by Trent Fox to approve the following (items b-c):


  1. Request for Delta High School to accept the donation of a television and wall mount from Best Way Disposal, as presented.  


  1. Request for Delta Middle School to accept the donation of Star Wars books from Susan Bilbrey, as presented.  


The motion was approved 5-0 vote.



  1. LETTERS/NOTES



  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS

Jacob Case – Mr. Case thanked everyone for coming.  He thanked the staff and administrators at Eaton Elementary School and Delta Middle School for getting the students safely where they needed to go after the water main break.  He stated it’s great we take care of the kids when parents can’t get to them right away when issues come up.  

Lance Engle – Mr. Engle thanked everyone for coming.  He stated it sounds like great things are happing at Eaton Elementary.  He stated Veterans Day is coming up and if you have an opportunity to attend one of the programs, please attend because he highly recommends it.  He stated it’s wonderful and he can’t wait to see what the students and teachers come up with to honor our Veterans. He’s looking forward to the program at Albany.

Trent Fox – Mr. Fox thanked everyone for coming.  He commented on the Title I news for Eaton Elementary and hopes they can benefit from it.  He stated winter sports are starting up and wished good luck to the teams. He hopes other activities outside of sports are going well.

Adam Williams – Mr. Williams concurred with his fellow board members.  He thanked everyone for their donations and stated they are always wonderful and help in many different ways.  He stated winter sports have started and also wanted to mention the different clubs that are available. He has a 9th grader who joined a club and is having a great time with it.  He stated for those who don’t fall into traditional sports, clubs can offer more and he encourages kids to be involved in different ways because it can make a difference.

John Adams – Mr. Adams congratulated Mr. Blakely and his staff and stated it’s well deserved.  He hopes it goes the way we all want it to and wished him good luck. He stated it doesn’t surprise him to have more donations from people in our community and it’s greatly appreciated.  He stated winter sports are starting and most fall sports have wrapped up. He wished those going into winter sports the best of luck. He mentioned sportsmanship and stated he thinks our kids and coaches do a great job, but sometimes things can get the best of us.  He stated to not forget this is about the kids and letting them do their job and letting those who coach, coach. He read an article a few weeks ago about coaching, parenting, and being responsible as our children are participating and letting them do that in a great manner.  He stated we’ve all seen it some time or another if you’ve had kids in sports. He commented it’s important to let our kids do their best, cheer them on, and they will do well.


  1. FUTURE MEETINGS


  1. A regular meeting for the Board of School Trustees is scheduled for Monday, November 18, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building.


  1. An ISBA Fall Regional Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday,        November 20, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Willie and Red’s          in Hagerstown, IN.



  1. ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Trent Fox and seconded by Jacob Case and Board President, John Adams, adjourned the meeting at 6:51 p.m.
