Amy Lewman, Royerton Elementary Principal, stated they usually send eLearning packets out the Thursday before the eLearning day, but they sent them out on Wednesday last week anticipating the weather coming in.  She stated the kids love it and some brought the packet back on Thursday. She stated the parents like that if they planned an extended vacation, they can have their kids bring the packet back completed and their attendance is good.  She informed everyone they’ve heard nothing but good comments and she had several teachers email her today to let her know they had zero contact from parents regarding eLearning. She stated that means what we’re doing is working and that makes it easier on staff.  She stated it is slow and methodical and the teacher’s appreciate that because they can work their way into it and feel very confident about the lessons they are planning. She stated last Friday they had some issues with a county school being on lockdown and she appreciates Mr. Marvin and Mr. Mann were on the phone with them offering help with whatever they needed.  She stated it was also Valentine’s Day parties with 200 parents coming in so she’s grateful she could still allow people into her building. She stated they took a little more precaution as people were coming to the door and everything worked out well. She stated parents were very appreciative for the notification and thanked the administration for making sure our families knew their kids were safe.  She informed everyone the biggest question they received was what a soft lockdown meant versus a traditional lockdown. She complimented her secretaries because even though they were getting phone call after phone call, their responses were always polite and accommodating to parents. She informed everyone on Saturday they are having the Daddy-Daughter Dance. She stated they moved it to a Saturday this year to allow parents who work until 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. the opportunity to take their daughter to dinner and then to the dance.  She stated you will be seeing Tweets about pretty little girls in their dresses, all made up, and spending an evening with their daddies.

  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS

John Adams – Mr. Adams gave a shout-out to the girls’ basketball team and stated no one wants their season to end short, but they did a great job.  He informed everyone he attended Semi-State for wrestling and two got through to State. He congratulated them and stated it was fun watching them battle it out on the mat.  He stated they took quite a few wrestlers, but to make it out of there and go to Indianapolis this weekend is tough. He stated they fought hard and give it their all. He thanked Mr. Kile for his eLearning presentation.  He stated they were hesitant when eLearning first started coming around and he hopes we are doing it the right way. He stated he’s still a big believer that teachers in front of kids is much better than a Chromebook in front of kids, but still understanding there’s a trend there and that’s the way things are going to go.  He appreciates what Mr. Kile and his team have done to get us to this point. He stated it’s good to hear from Ms. Lewman and what’s going on at Royerton and the Daddy-Daughter Dance sounds like it’s going to be well attended and fun. He stated he’s been on the Board a long time and we pretty much get a donation from someone at every meeting.  He would like to go back through all the meetings since he’s attended in 2006 and bets it would be several thousand dollars our patrons have stepped up and donated to our school in one form or another and it’s greatly appreciated. He gave a shout-out to the staff who get the buildings ready on delays. He knows there’s a lot of work that goes into that and thanked Mr. Stebbins and his team.

Jacob Case – Mr. Case congratulated the girls’ basketball team.  He stated he attended a few games and they played their hearts out.  He congratulated the wrestling team and the two going to State. He informed everyone on Saturday he attended the Ball State men’s basketball game where the Albany and Eaton choirs sang the National Anthem.  He stated it was cool to watch the kids get out there and sing. He thanked Mr. Kile and everyone involved with eLearning and stated they’ve done great things. He stated he’s heard bad stories from other districts and he’s glad we are trying to do it the right way.  He thanked Mr. Mann and staff for making sure all our kids were safe with the situation in Gaston.

Lance Engle – Mr. Engle thanked Mr. Kile, administrators, and teachers for eLearning and everything that goes into that.  He stated it’s a lot of prep work from what he’s seen personally with his kids. He stated he has two kids in elementary and one in middle school and it hasn’t been that big of a deal for them due to the preparedness of teachers, what they send home, how it’s handled, and he appreciates that.  He informed everyone tomorrow night is the Coaches vs Cancer game with money being raised for “Flash To a Cure” for the Christian Daughtery Foundation. He stated lots of cool activities will be happening and he encourages everyone to be there. He stated some 4th and 5th graders will be playing at halftime as well.

Adam Williams – Mr. Williams highlighted winter sports as they are wrapping up.  He appreciates what the athletes do for our school and representing us well with not just victories, but how they carry themselves with professionalism and maturity.  He stated he’s seen the young kids play basketball at halftime of the boys’ home games and he gets a kick out of watching the controlled chaos. He appreciates the coaches who added that feature to the home games and giving the kids a chance to play in front of a big crowd.  He thanked everyone involved with eLearning and appreciates them working so hard to find the right balance with the values we have as a Board and district. He stated that’s not an easy balance to find and what we are doing feels like the right fit for us at this time. He appreciates the thought and consideration and keeping us focused on what’s best for the kids.  He mentioned the AES/EES choir at the Ball State game and the opportunities the Royerton choir is looking to do next year. He loves that Delta has various extra-curricular activities for our kids. He stated if your kids aren’t involved in something, find something for them to get involved in. He stated there are wonderful, valuable things and lessons to grow beyond and he appreciates all those who put in extra efforts to make Delta a special place.
