A latch key program is a school age child care program for children who attend kindergarten through grade 6 available to all children in the grades K-6 within the Corporation. The latch key program is provided by the Corporation, operates outside the school day, and may include the period before school is in session or periods when school is not otherwise in session.
A child care provider under this policy must acquire liability insurance as specified by the Superintendent.
The maximum staff-child ratios in the child care program, whether operated by the Corporation or another organization, shall be as follows:
The program shall follow the regulations of the Division of Family and Children with respect to the maximum number of children to be supervised by one (1) staff member for children younger than five (5) years of age.
A school corporation may not assess a fee for the use of a building for a childcare program (latch key program). However, in accordance with policy G375 Use of School Facilities and associated Administrative Guidelines, the Corporation may assess a fee to reimburse the Corporation for providing security, maintenance, utilities, school personnel, or other costs directly attributable to the use of a building for a childcare program. If the Corporation directly conducts a childcare program, the Corporation may assess a fee to cover costs attributable to implementing the program.
