  1. LETTERS/NOTES

  1. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS

John Adams – Mr. Adams commented that he didn’t know Ms. Gillis well until she started on the Board the first time and got to know her pretty well.  He stated she was a wonderful servant who loved to serve not only in just the school, but 4H and you would see her everywhere, that was the kind of person she was.  He stated she had the opportunity to come back on the Board and no one had any doubt that was the first thing she would do, she had a love for serving at this capacity for DelCom Schools.  He stated we lost a good one and if you pulled up somewhere there was no doubt Alice was already there.  He stated she would be one of the first ones in the door because she cared so much.  He commented our community lost a good servant yesterday.  He gave heartfelt thanks to her for what she’s done to serve on this Board.  He stated it’s not always fun, but we could count on her and she was always here to share her thoughts.  He gave his condolences to the family.  He commented it was good to be a part of Graduation and it’s always good to see the kids on that day.  He stated they are going to learn a lot and it’s always good to graduate your class and enjoy them as they walk across with a big smile on their face.  He gave a shout-out to the team who put that all together.  He stated there is a lot of effort that goes into that and it takes time to set that up and it’s greatly appreciated.  He congratulated the track team, the baseball team on winning Regionals, boys’ golf winning Sectionals and moving on, and commented there are a lot of good things happening at DelCom.  He stated all of that is because we have great people in great parts of our school corporation that love serving kids and it shows.  He gave all sports teams a shout-out as they finish up their seasons.  He stated it was good to hear about the numbers for IREAD and it’s nice to keep that going.  He thanked Ms. Lewman for sharing.  He thanked everyone for their donations and stated it’s greatly appreciated.

Jacob Case – Mr. Case concurred with his fellow board member.  He stated he attended the Muncie Commission Delaware County Sports Awards and DelCom was very well represented.  He stated Mr. Cleland got to take home an award and in Mr. Cleland fashion he was there with a Smash Cancer shirt on and Mr. Case loved it.  He stated the kids were well behaved and it was great.  He commented it was great to be a part of Graduation.  He congratulated the kids who are going to serve in the Military and stated that takes a lot of courage to do that, especially the ones who are actively serving right now.  He thanked them for going that route.  He stated we had a big loss with Ms. Gillis.  He commented she was a great lady and spent many years serving kids, whether that was in our district, teaching, 4H, or pumpkins.  He stated she did a lot for many people and will be missed.  He hopes everyone enjoys their summer and hopes all the kids stay safe.

Lance Engle – Mr. Engle concurred with his fellow board members.  He stated there are lots of great things happening at DelCom.  He congratulated Coach Wilburn and the baseball team on winning Regionals.  He knows they worked really hard.  He stated the coaches have done a great job getting that program going and you are starting to see it come to fruition this year.  He thinks they are maybe overachieving themselves and realizing they can now do it.  He stated Graduation was a great night and thanked all those involved in getting that going.  He commented it’s an honor to be a part of that ceremony and it’s great to see the number of people come out who care about our kids. He stated they treat them in the proper manner they deserve and thanked all those involved in making that happen.  He stated it’s amazing every year and it’s amazing the way our ceremony comes about and the way it’s done in the proper way.  He wished good luck to the Class of 2024.  He knows they are going to do great things because it’s a great class.  He congratulated the golf team on making it to Regionals and to the few track athletes who competed in the State Finals.  He stated some had to miss Graduation, but thanks to Tilmon Clark, he put a ceremony together for the Seniors at the track meet.  He stated it was pretty cool to see them get their diplomas down in Bloomington under a tent.  He congratulated the 3rd graders, teachers, and administration for the IREAD scores and stated it’s phenomenal.  He commented that’s an exciting way to end the school year to have those numbers come back and he’s sure the teachers and students are over the moon.  He hopes everyone enjoys their summer.  He stated he knew Ms. Gillis briefly while she was on the Board.  He stated he’s gotten to know her a little bit and he’s loved getting to know her.  He stated she set the example of how to serve, whether it’s being there for Science Fairs, giving pumpkins, being at the school for different events, or being on the Board; she was so involved in a lot of different things.  He knows the last few months it was hard for her to get around, but she wanted to be here.  He stated she loved science and teaching science and always had a heart for that.  He was glad he got to know her for the short amount of time he did.  He stated it’s a tough loss and his thoughts and prayers are with her family.
